Plant Care - Yucca (Chandelier Flower):

Yucca plants add color and freshness to living spaces such as homes and offices. Due to their high resistance to cold winters, they are also a popular choice for landscaping in parks and gardens in Turkey. Some species can withstand temperatures as low as -35 degrees Celsius. They are also very compatible with saline soils, making them easily grown in coastal areas that are salty due to seawater. Besides Türkiye, they grow naturally in Mediterranean climates such as Spain, Italy, France, and Greece. Yucca is also a very showy flowering plant; some species are known to have flower stalks that reach several meters in height.

How to Water?:

Yucca, which grows naturally in hot, dry, and arid areas in open fields, does not require much water by nature. If you choose it as an outdoor plant, plant the yucca and forget about it. This plant requires almost no maintenance; in the first year, watering it at certain intervals during the summer months will suffice. If you choose it as an indoor plant, be careful not to overwater. You should water it after more than half of the soil has dried out and with water that has been left to stand for two days to remove the chlorine.

How Should Light and Heat Be?:

All species of Yucca plants require plenty of sunlight. If their leaves are very stiff and thick, it means they are accustomed to the sun. If they have been deprived of sunlight for too long, their leaves will become lighter green and weaker. To maintain the elegant appearance of the leaves of a Yucca plant kept indoors, it needs to be protected from direct, intense sunlight. The Yucca Gloriosa species can withstand temperatures down to -25 degrees Celsius, while the Yucca Filementosa species can withstand temperatures down to -35 degrees Celsius.

How to Change Pots and Soil?:

Yucca plants prefer well-aerated soil. When repotting and changing the soil once a year in April, be sure to mix pumice stone into the soil.

How Should Pruning Be Done?:

Yucca plants easily produce side branches. The best time for pruning is mid-spring to early summer. Allow the cuts to dry in the air or wind, or you can use special treatments. Using silicone, wax, or pastes can cause your plant to rot.
