Balcony Gardening - 5 Plants to Plant in September

Balcony Gardening - 5 Plants to Plant in September:

As summer draws to a close, we might look at our balconies/gardens and think their colorful days are over, that the season is finished. However, with proper preparation for the seasonal conditions, it's possible to maintain our mini garden and balcony gardening for 12 months of the year. In September, our balconies/gardens will be expecting a little more attention from us. If you're ready, let's prepare our mini garden for autumn and winter!

Things to do in our existing mini garden:

  • Remove the weeds that have grown as a result of abundant watering during the summer.
  • Trim any wilted parts of existing plants or flowers. Some flowers will bloom again during this time, like roses.
  • If you have any perennial woody plants, prune any dried branches with pruning shears.

Our garden is now ready. So, let's take a look together at these 5 plants that we can plant in September, which will delight us with both their scent and taste .

1. Parsley:

Parsley is a very adaptable plant that can grow in various conditions. The most important things to remember when planting it are not to compact the soil too much and not to plant the seeds too deep. After planting the seeds, simply place the pots in a spot that receives morning sun and water to keep the soil moist. It's that simple!

2. Rosemary:

Rosemary, easily distinguishable from other plants by its thin, needle-like leaves and small purple flowers that bloom during its flowering period, has become indispensable in both the cosmetics industry and our kitchens, thanks to its wonderful fragrance and intense flavor. Seeds should be sown in sandy and peat-rich soil, which you can obtain from florists or the plant sections of hardware stores. While it can easily be cared for on your balcony except during very cold weather, it also adapts easily to indoor environments. Rosemary loves the sun, so you can place its pot in the sunniest spot on your balcony for the longest time. Watering it to keep the soil moist is sufficient.

3. Thyme:

Thyme, with its wonderful aroma, is an indispensable ingredient in kitchens and can be consumed both fresh and dried. Because its seeds are very small, it can be a little challenging for first-timers, but you can also grow it from seedlings. If sowing from seed, be careful not to plant it too deep in the soil; if sowing from seedlings, ensure there is sufficient space between the seedlings. Shallow, shallow pots with drainage holes should be used, along with a fertilized and sandy soil mixture. Thyme loves the sun, so you can place its pot in the sunniest spot on your balcony for the longest time. Watering is sufficient to keep the soil moist.

4. Arugula:

For arugula, which prefers cool climates and places that don't get too much sun, you need fertilized and peat-based soil. Seeds should be sown at intervals and not too deep in the soil. After sowing the seeds and watering to keep the soil moist, you can expect sprouts to appear after 15-20 days.

5. Radish:

Radishes, a true storehouse of vitamins, have a very high germination rate. Radishes prefer sunny or partially shaded locations; simply sow the seeds far apart and as close to the surface as possible, and water to keep the soil moist. Your radishes will begin to germinate in about two weeks. You'll be surprised how fast they grow!
