Miniature Beauty: Mandarin Tree Care

Miniature Beauty: Mandarin Tree Care;

The mandarin tree is a plant species belonging to the citrus family. Its main growing region is known to be China, and it is cultivated especially in areas with temperate climates. Mandarins are also widely grown in our country. The Mediterranean region, in particular, has favorable climatic conditions for growing this fruit. However, this beautiful plant can grow not only in the Mediterranean but also in other regions with milder climates. Let's examine together the care of this beautiful tree, which often creates a visual feast in our homes and balconies.

These trees are no different from normal mandarin trees except for their size and edible properties. Their care, placement, soil, etc., are the same as the normal-sized varieties. As we all know, the mandarin tree is a winter plant. However, miniature mandarin trees, with good care, remain healthy throughout all four seasons. Despite being a winter plant, it needs protection from extreme cold, as excessive cold can damage the plant. Similarly, it needs protection from extreme heat. In short, these plants should never be exposed to excessive heat or cold. For example, exposing your tree to direct sunlight, especially between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM during the summer months, will be harmful. In winter, wind is another important consideration. We should avoid placing the tree in a location where it will be directly exposed to wind during the winter months. They shed their fruit seasonally and then produce more. Miniature mandarins are not suitable for direct consumption, but they can be used to add flavor to beverages.

Watering is very important for all miniature fruit trees. Your tree's water needs vary seasonally. It requires less water in winter and more in summer. For example, if you water once in winter, you will need to water the same tree twice in summer. When watering in winter, you should check the soil first and not water until it is completely dry; in summer, you should water before the soil dries out. Another important point regarding watering schedule is to meet your tree's water needs regularly at the same time each day.
