Afife Jale; Born in Kadıköy, she was the first Turkish female theater artist. She pioneered the appearance of Muslim Turkish women on the theater stage and worked for this throughout her life. For this reason, she was ostracized from her family, thrown out of her home, and had to live with the fear of being arrested. Afife, who was suffering from severe headaches due to the problems she was experiencing, died in 1941 at the age of 39 due to addiction to the morphines given by her doctor. Since 1997, "Afife Jale Theater Awards" have been held in memory of the artist.
